Flexible production with no investment risk

Lungmetall from Kottenheim has an almost 100-year tradition in metal working. Now in its third generation, the company with its approximately 60 employees is today an established service provider in the fields of sheet metal working and fabrication. Manufacturers from the beverage industry, pharmaceuticals and plant and mechanical engineering are among its diversified customer base. To further expand its own vertical integration, Lungmetall has successively built up its machining capacity since 2018, which now boasts four CNC machine tools from DMG MORI.

Following a DMC 1450 V, a CTX beta 800 linear and a DMU 50 3rd Generation, the latest model to be installed on the shop floor is an M1 vertical machining center that was launched in 2021. A first: This acquisition was made via the PAYZR model recently introduced by DMG MORI. “Reliability, quality and absolute customer orientation take top priority for us”, stresses Markus Lung, authorized signatory and grandson of the founder. A well-trained workforce, flexible working practices and high-performance machine capacity are needed to achieve this. “It allows us to complete even the most challenging projects in a timely manner.” The Lungmetall team includes its own design engineers and experienced employees in production, who together can produce even the most complex assemblies.

Machine quality as a hallmark

Where production is concerned, Lungmetall has for many years been using advanced and innovative technologies. “We trust in state-of-the-art laser machines for sheet metal working, including one with a 12 kW laser”, says Marcus Lung, referring to a high-speed laser cutting machine that is rarely found in Germany. “We place the same demands on quality of machining.” Marcus Lung took on an experienced employee to set up the new production area. Wadim Roschkow, Head of Turning and Machining Technology at Lungmetall, was already acquainted with the DMG MORI machine portfolio from a previous job. “The DMC 1450 V was just as safe an investment as the CTX beta 800 linear and the DMU 50 3rd Generation.” The rapid development of the machining area was, and is, a result of good business development at Lungmetall. “We are always on the lookout for ways to increase our capacity efficiently,” says Marcus Lung. And that is exactly where the M1 by PAYZR came into play.  Marcus Lung was immediately convinced: “A subscription model with a pay-per-use element is ideally suited to handling production peaks.”

Planning certainty with full price and cost transparency and an all-inclusive package

Marcus Lung definitely sees the PAYZR subscription model as completely risk-free. “There is no down payment and the basic monthly fee covers maintenance, service and insurance, among other things. In addition, we have full price and cost transparency because machine utilization is charged based on spindle hours.” The M1 3-axis machine is an unbeatable entry-level investment. DMG MORI offers the model in the configurations M1 complete, M1 plus and M1 pro. There is a choice of a 12, 24 or 36-month term for PAYZR. The basic fee and price for spindle hours depend on the combination of the two.

M1: maximum performance on attractive terms

“If contrary to expectations business should deteriorate, we can simply give the machine back after the 36-month term”, adds Marcus Lung. “With the PAYZR model, the machine does not work out very much more expensive than it would if financed conventionally, even if used at full capacity. For us, the gain in greater flexibility and planning certainty is definitely worth it.” Incidentally, Lungmetall decided on the M1 pro. Wadim Roschkow tells us why: “We wanted the benefits of maximum performance. A 12,000 rpm inline spindle and a 20-bar internal coolant supply are part of the configuration.” Marcus Lung is already looking further ahead: “To keep pace with growth, we intend to expand our production area in the foreseeable future and we will continue to invest in CNC technology.” His aim is to strengthen turning in particular and to this end install a turning center with bar loader to maximize the degree of automation in production. “The PAYZR model could again be an option for us in the future. We are looking forward to the introduction of new machine models available under this scheme.”
